The WSU Veterinary Teaching Hospital will be closed Dec 24-25 & Jan 1 and open normal hours (8 am – 5 pm) Dec 26-28 & Dec 31. 24-hour emergency service is always available.

CVM Alumnus Nancy Gillett honored with the Washington State University Alumni Association Alumni Achievement Award

Charles Leathers was presented with the Harold W. Casey Award

Charles Leathers was presented with the Harold W. Casey Award at the CL Davis Foundation reception on December 3 in Seattle. The Charles L. Davis Foundation is a publicly-supported foundation that is dedicated to the formal and informal study, and the teaching and practice of veterinary and comparative pathology. Each year the CL Davis Foundation honors one veterinary pathologist with its Harold W. Casey Award for Excellence in the Teaching of Veterinary and Comparative Pathology.

WSU's Mushtaq Memon receives 2012 VEGA Alliance Service Award

Dr. Mustaq Memon was recruited in June 2010 for a short term volunteer assignment through ACDI/VOCA’s Farmer to Farmer program to train host organizations on general farm veterinary practices and their beneficiaries on general livestock veterinary issues. Dr. Memon assisted Lebanon University in improving and expanding their existing small veterinary curriculum, and provided guidance on future veterinary program development. His recommendations included securing funding to expand the teaching and research center, and allowing for greater practical experience for the students.

Glen the Bald Eagle Released near Spokane WA

An injured bald eagle found last June north of Spokane WA was given a 30% chance of surviving because of a fracture near a joint. The eagle named Glen beat those odds and was released at the Little Spokane River Natural Area on November 27, 2012.

Glen was fitted with an identifying ankle tag while recovering at the Washington State University College of Veterinary Medicine.

Raelynn Farnsworth awarded 2012 National Mentor of the Year by the American Veterinary Dental Society

Dr. Raelynn Farnsworth was awarded the 2012 National Mentor of the Year by the American Veterinary Dental Society for her dedication to student learning in Veterinary Dentistry at Washington State University.

WSU Vetmed Student Research Symposium

Students who were engaged in research in the College of Veterinary Medicine in 2012 presented a poster session on October 24 detailing their work. A major purpose of this event is to recognize (and learn from) the efforts of students and trainees–veterinary students, undergraduate students, graduate students, and residents/interns – who contribute to the research mission of the college and profession.

WSU's Laura Baltodano to be presented with the Anna E. Worth AAHA Student Leadership Award

Congratulations to Laura Baltodano, Class of 2013, who will be presented with the Anna E. Worth AAHA Student Leadership Award at the AAHA Annual Conference in March 2013. Laura is being recognized for outstanding student leadership through her service to the WSU Pet Loss Hotline and development of an AAHA Clinical Skills Training Program at WSU.

Dr Katrina Mealey is the 2012 recipient of the Pfizer Award for Research Excellence

Dean Slinker and Jerry Johnston (Pfizer) presented the 2012 Pfizer Award for Research to Katrina Mealey from the Department of Veterinary Clinical Sciences for her ongoing research in companion animal pharmacogenetics.
